  • Definition of a commercial motor vehicle (CMV)
  • What CMVs require the driver to have a commercial driver’s license (CDL) and which one’s don’t
  • DOT registration including interstate vs. intrastate and “for hire” vs “private cargo”
  • Drug/Alcohol program requirements and testing requirements (only applicable to driver’s of CDL-required vehicles)
  • Hours of service requirements (general requirements that apply to all CMV drivers)
    • Exemptions from keeping log books and/or from using Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs)
    • When exempt from log books/ELDs what records must be collected/maintained
